Whitney White will direct the first-ever Broadway production of Jason Robert Brown’s musical, "The Last Five Years," set to open next spring.

Nick Jonas and Adrienne Warren are expected to star in this production. Jonas, who began his career on Broadway as a child, last starred in a Broadway show in 2012 with "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying." He recently appeared on Broadway again during a Jonas Brothers concert. Warren, a Tony Award winner for her role in "Tina," has also starred in Broadway productions like "Shuffle Along" and "Bring It On."

"The Last Five Years" tells the story of a marriage falling apart. It is unique because it only has two characters and one act. The male character, Jamie, tells the story from beginning to end, while the female character, Cathy, tells it from end to beginning. The musical first appeared in Illinois at Northlight Theater in 2001 and then ran Off Broadway in 2002. Since then, it has been produced many times across the world, including a film adaptation in 2015 starring Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan.

During the pandemic, its small cast made it popular for socially distanced productions, like the streaming version by Out of the Box Theatrics and Holmdel Theater Company.

The new Broadway production will be produced by Seaview, ATG Productions, and the Season, with Whitney White directing.
